OUR THEME

INSPIRED IN HIS PRESENCE
The Lord dropped on Pr Isaac's heart this theme for 2025, to be Inspired in His Presence. Anchored in

Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

OUR HISTORY

FIRST FIFTEEN & UPTOWN

1993 - 1995

The journey of our church began with just fifteen individuals gathering in various locations before settling in a shop lot in Uptown, Damansara Utama, guided by divine providence. Despite our small size, we were inspired by the transformation God had wrought in our midst, fueling our belief in limitless potential.

Everyone contributed to the church’s up keep, despite challenges such as a pub beneath our premises. Yet, we remained undeterred, fostering a strong sense of community and resilience. Our humble beginnings taught us that strength doesn’t hinge on size but on the unity and determination of believers.

SECTION 19

1998

In 1998, we started searching for a new place to accommodate our growth. We were closing in on 300 every week, and what’s more, we were sharing our premise with a BM church. One afternoon, we were attracted to a corner shop-lot in Section 19, PJ, and we visited it. Subsequently, Pastor Chew received a surprising phone call from a man questioning our presence at his building. This man had recently placed a deposit on the property and had seen us praying there.

After Pastor Chew clarified our intentions, the man abruptly ended the call. Later that evening, during a prayer meeting, a stout gentleman entered and revealed himself to be the same person who had called earlier. He said that since their phone call, he has had no peace in his heart. “I can fight against men, but I cannot fight against God. Take the building.”

This man wrote out a 10% tithe of that deal on a cheque. That 10% was exactly RM1.3m! Enough to secure the building! Truly, whatever God starts, He will provide. But there was yet another twist. One night, while still in Uptown, a word from God came that Section 19 wasn’t for us.

Attending his first ever prayer meeting was a certain Mr. Wong Koon Tatt. As the prayer meeting began, God laid a word in his heart, a word carrying so much weight, it felt impossible to release. He paced back and forth trying to shake it off, but in the end, his obedience won out.

He approached the front of the hall and spoke. “This is not a house of bricks and mortar,” the words fell out of his mouth. “Give the Section 19 building to the BM church.” The room fell silent. It was a holy moment, and everyone was on their knees. Tears flowed. We all knew in our spirit that it was from God. We did it. We gave away the building to the BM church.

We didn’t know it then, but this act of obedience and generosity was the defining moment of our church. Because God saw that we had a big heart, He could now take us into a big destiny.

BIG HEART, BIG DESTINY

2004 - 2024

SIBKL needed a new place to reside. CP Tower represented more than a mere reward for our past efforts; it embodied a divine vision granted to us. Our transition from Uptown to CP Tower was characterised by rapid growth and significant achievements, highlighting the principle that strength arises from unity and commitment, not size.

The journey from our humble beginnings at CP Tower to our present accomplishments can be traced back to a pivotal prayer meeting in 2004. Although the meeting’s significance wasn’t immediately apparent, the palpable presence of God was undeniable. During this gathering, a prophecy was uttered, serving as both a promise and a warning.

It conveyed that if our congregation remained faithful, God would lead us into a new phase, akin to Caleb and Joshua entering the Promised Land, sparking a movement. The subsequent revelation of building plans for Bangunan Yin, brought by an associate of Pastor Chew, signified the next step in our journey. This occurrence underscored the importance of fidelity and obedience in realising God’s plan for our congregation.

LOVING JESUs THROUGH THE GENERATIONS

2024 - Present

Enter Covid-19 and the nationwide lockdowns—yet the move of God in our church could not be stopped. In 2024, we celebrated our 30th anniversary at Megastar Arena with over 6,000 people across our services. This milestone also commemorated the transition of Senior Pastors—from Pr Chew and Pr Lee Choo to Pr Michael Lam and Pr Tabitha Lam (LifeGen Church), Pr Isaac Ling (SIBKL Main Church), Pr Wong Sum Keong (Workplace @ The River), and Pr Fergus Ong (SIBKL Sungai Buloh).

Pr Chew often reminds us: “My ceiling is your floor.” With that conviction, we believe that God will continue to lead SIBKL from glory to glory and from strength to strength through the new leadership He has appointed and anointed.

God is still writing His story through SIBKL. Today, every weekend, over 5,000 congregants walk through the doors of our churches. Together, let us remain faithful—so that SIBKL will not just be a church, but a movement that will "fly high, last long" for generations to come.
