7 Reasons We Need Small Groups by John Piper PDF Print E-mail

He has given pastors to the church “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12). I believe in what I do. And I believe that it is not enough. Here are the seven reasons I gave the small group leaders.

  1. The impulse avoid painful growth by disappearing safely into the crowd in corporate worship is very strong.
  2. The tendency toward passivity in listening to a sermon is part of our human weakness.
  3. Listeners in a big group can more easily evade redemptive crises. If tears well up in your eyes in a small group, wise friends will gently find out why. But in a large gathering, you can just walk away from it.
  4. Listeners in a large group tend to neglect efforts of personal application. The sermon may touch a nerve of conviction, but without someone to press in, it can easily be avoided.
  5. Opportunity for questions leading to growth is missing. Sermons are not dialogue. Nor should they be. But asking questions is a key to understanding and growth. Small groups are great occasions for this.
  6. Accountability for follow-through on good resolves is missing. But if someone knows what you intended to do, the resolve is stronger.
  7. Prayer support for a specific need or conviction or resolve goes wanting. O how many blessings we do not have because we are not surrounded by a band of friends who pray for us.

What is Cell Life? PDF Print E-mail

The word cell can take on many forms. For us, cell is the basic unit of the life of the church. They form the small groups of 10-15 people which gather every week to meet in homes throughout the city. Each cell is led by a trained leader appointed by the church’s senior pastor and he/she is supported by a core team.

In a cell, members can get to know each other in a more informal atmosphere and this is where they can also bring their friends to. The cell is the basic discipling unit of the church where the members are equipped and empowered to serve our world.

WHAT DO WE DO IN CELLS

Each week the cell’s agenda focuses on welcoming each other and the friends that come to visit. Time is then set aside for worshiping God and this helps connect people to God so that they are ready to study the Word of God together. Word time evolves around the discussion of the sermon of the week or a theme to align us to the church's' vision. In the cell we share testimonies of what God has done in our lives and we usually end with a good time of prayer. In SIB every cell is encouraged to participate in the community and to reach out to people outside the walls of the church.

WHAT TYPE of CELLS do we have?
In SIB we have cells that are grouped according to geographical locations and also according to common interest groups. The common interest cells are our College, Teens, Young adults and Ladies cell groups.

We are a Cell Church PDF Print E-mail
SIBKL became a cell church in March 1999. Today we have about 90 cells located throughout the Klang valley. In order to cater for the different age groups and needs of the members, we have various types of cells and they are:

Teen Cells - For teenagers
College Cells - For college students
Young Adult Cells - For adults below the age of 35 years old
Adult Cells - For family and other adults
We would like to invite you to join a cell and if possible start the process today! Whether you a new born again Christian that has just accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or a newcomer to our church, we want you to start a new and enduring relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have new life, and to have it to the full” (John 10:10).

When you join a cell, you will receive care and encouragement from your cell members through prayers, word and fellowship. You willalso be equipped to pray, work together as a team and learn how to share the gospel.

As you grow into spiritual maturity, you will know the heart of God. Last but not least, you will find your purpose in Christ.
